Vietnam Science and Technology Day will be held for the first time on May 18 with the theme “Science and technology (S&T): motivation for rapid and sustainable development”.
The event is aimed to propagate widely S&T achievements, to honor scientists, raise society’s awareness about the role of S&T and encourage the young people to involve in scientific research in order to contribute to the development of our country.
Accordingly, a series of events will be organized in S&T Day. The main event is the announcement ceremony of the National S&T Day will take place on May 18 at the National Convention Center in Hanoi. The ceremony will be broadcast live on VOV and News Agency channels from 9-10 am on May 18.
In two days (from 17 - 18 May), an S&T exhibition displaying many photos of outstanding S&T achievements will be take place in the National Convention Center. In addition, many activities including Ta Quang Buu Awards Ceremony, the meeting of scientists and Workshop of start-up enterprises will be organized at the headquarter of Ministry of Science and Technology in Vietnam.
Meanwhile, in local areas, many events are scheduled to be organized, such as demonstration of the link between S&T supply and demand in northern region, workshops on S&T policy and measures concerning the promotion of technology application and innovation in Bac Giang province; International conference on S&T communication in Da Nang; reports on S&T achievements in Thai Nguyen.
In addition, universities and research institutes nationwide will celebrate S&T Day by numerous activities. Laboratories of Hanoi National University will open its door to the public from 12-18 May. Ho Chi Minh National University will introduce S&T products of its scientists, teachers, students and investors. Vietnam S&T Academy will open its labs and museums in Hanoi, Da Nang, Nha Trang, etc.
Ministry of Science and Technology declared 2014 is the year of action on science, focus on building a complete system of sub-law documents to create most favorable conditions for breakthroughs in S&T. The activities in the S&T day will kindle the flame of enthusiasm and passion for science in the public, also mobilize creative resources for industrialization and modernization of the country.
